Prerequisites

Software

 To experience PacByte Video on Demand you will need the following software prerequisites:

• Java - provided free by Sun Microsystems - is a programming language that enables PacByte video streaming to work in your Windows or Mac-based web browser
• VLC video player - provided free by VideoLAN - is a video player that receives and plays PacByte video streaming

PacByte uses VLC because it works on Windows and Mac, works in a web browser, will play a range of media (including H.264, MP4, DivX and Xvid), and enables us to stream a higher quality of video than we could using other currently available players.

Before you use the PacByte VoD Technology for the first time, you must click here to install the relevant versions of Java and VLC.

Once everything is loaded and your computer has the necessary system requirements (see below) you're ready to go.

System Requirements

In addition to Java and VLC you will require the following system requirements:

• A consistent Internet speed of at least 1 Mbs for Standard Quality video and 3 Mbs for High Quality video - click here to see if you have the necessary Internet speed
• PacByte's Video on Demand service has been tested and found to work on:
  • Wireless or wired network connection
  • xDSL or Cable
    
  • Linux (Fedora)
  • Macintosh OSX (PPC & Intel)
  • Microsoft Windows (98, 2000, XP, Vista)
• PacByte recommends at least 256MB RAM
